Edi - it's so weird because you know it's a story but a good author brings you in and you forget you are reading. When the author doesn't like a character, you wonder why they wrote the book.

This is a lot like the experience I had with Leaving Gee's Bend, which I just finished last night. I didn't care about any of the characters and I don't think the author did either. The story had an artificial, made up feel to it and was just awful. I'd love to have someone who has studied literature explain this deficit!

It's interesting how various tour hosts have felt about this book. You're one of the few to actually *like* one of the characters. Most of the characters are unlikable, and it's been interesting to see how tour hosts have liked or not liked that.

Thanks for being on the tour! Sorry the book wasn't quite your cup of tea. :)
